The progam is a One Year Basic Program for girls ages 15-24
This program targets areas where a student is experiencing difficulties, helps them gain confidence so that they can move forward in learning.
- The curriculum, which will comprise of five components, and will have a community focus. They are as follows: building self-esteem, culture and the arts, living skills, vocational skills, and basic education.
- Self-esteem classes which include writing short stories and poems, speaking in small groups or making presentations before peers, will build students’ self-esteem, self-confidence, self-worth, and improve self-motivation and help them to interact in therapy sessions.
- Culture and the arts include instrumental music, for example, guitar, keyboard/ piano, voice participating in chorus, dance, painting, poetry, journal writing, contests, and presentations before community groups. These activities will foster self-expression and confidence.
- Life- skills Instruction consists of classes in self-care, cooking, nutrition, and baking, budgeting and check book maintenance, shopping, access to recreational skills such as gym exercising, swimming, and strength training. We also incorporate Bible Study, provide one-on-one mentoring support to foster interaction and give the student spiritual direction.
- Vocational training includes basic computer training, dress designing, knitting and crocheting on site or working offsite in teams at community organizations. Students can participate in the community by showcasing and selling their products.
- The education component includes Basic Math, English, Writing, Communication and Social Studies with GED classes taken offsite, for students interested in attending a two-year college.
- Basic Math: Includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division tailored to each student’s needs.
- Basic English: Includes pronunciation and conversation, vocabulary, writing skills, reading comprehension and grammar tailored to each student’s needs.
- Writing: Includes sentence construction, paragraphs, short stories, and poems
- Communication: Includes speaking in small groups or in front of the class to peers
