During this pandemic, caretakers like myself, are having a difficult time with their special-needs children or adults. We do not have access to day-programs and may be reluctant to hire help during this pandemic. I have found artists to help my special-needs adult, but it happens through Zoom, but I have found it is difficult for my daughter to focus with distant learning. However, there are things we can still do to make it work.
You can sit and listen to the artist, allow your son or daughter to hold the pencil or pen and draw with you. If that does not work, listen attentively to the artist, and do the drawing yourself, knowing that you can have a teaching session with your son or daughter later. Barring a snow day, and if it is possible, take your son or daughter for a short walk or do some sitting exercises with them, which you can find on YouTube. Never get frustrated, remember that God loves your children and adults the same way He loves you and that their disabilities are not reasons to dislike them or feel frustrated over.
You can use an IPAD to help them with English lessons or conversational English or in any subject of your choice. They can also listen to fairy tales. The fact that they are hearing another person speak beside you or me, is a great help. Play an educational movie if you have Amazon prime. Whatever you do, make the best of your time and do not be hard on yourself either. Get up early to get a head start to do your own stretching exercises and personal activities. Remember to take good care of yourself so you can care for others. May God bless you.
