As caregivers, our minds are always racing, thinking of the next steps for our adults with special needs. I want you to understand that you are not alone in this dilemma. I am thinking of getting together with a few parents so we can brainstorm on our next steps.
I am particularly interested in getting together with parents of schizophrenic adults. The main reason I am interested in meeting with you is so we can form a community and stand together so we can receive opportunities at the YMCA for swimming and other activities, so we can have a voice for our adult children.
The second reason is that we can support each other in our endeavours, so we are not alone. Schizophrenics are lonely people and their parents end up being lonely people as well. It is so difficult to find another parent with a child like ours so if we can start with one or two parents, we would do well.
The third reason is that our adult children have no friends. If you could meet up you will be doing your adult children a big favor, because they need friends. Let us figure out how we can meet up via a zoom and then we can move to in-person.
I wish you a great Easter. If you are of a different faith, I wish you and your family all the best on this holiday season.
