It has been two months since I have written a new blog post. I had a busy schedule but an enjoyable one. I hope you have had an enjoyable time also.
I have been supporting our daughter Jo-an in a number of ways, including accompanying her to her dance therapy class on Fridays. It has been wonderful to see her walk with confidence to and from her classroom. She smiles and waves to the ladies at the front desk as we leave the building. The ladies have no idea that they are my support base that God put in place to support me as she enters the building because at times, she stands in one place and refuses to move and someone may say, “Are you going to your class?” I am already seated in a comfortable chair and that action indicates to her what she must do and that is, to follow me. If she does not follow me, the instructor enters the door and must pass by me before going into the classroom. I would hear her say, “There is your mom.”
Jo-An enjoys listening to me read her a book before the driver comes to take her to her day-program. She enjoys taking a walk prior to her pick up but feels frustrated when the driver is late, and she has to go inside to wait for the driver. She loves going to the library on Saturdays to take out books and smiles as the librarians remember her name from years ago when she visited the library.
What does your special needs son or daughter like to do? Please let me know so that we all can learn together. I am continually seeking things for Jo-an to do, but I know, and God knows that I am capable of doing only so much at a time. I depend on God fully knowing that He will make a way for Jo-an to prosper and certainly will make a way for your son/daughter. May God bless you.
In Christ,
Joan M. Blake
