For parents dealing with a child or adult with Schizophrenia, you know that a child or adult with Schizophrenia face emotional difficulties and have trouble thinking rationally and clearly (Very well Health). For the purpose of this blog, I will discuss what I have observed dealing with my daughter and how I am able to deal with her every morning.
Getting Em to cooperate daily is a challenge. I approach her with a smile, pray with her every morning, massage her neck area, give her time to get off the bed, and help her to take a shower. I teach her the activities of daily living, skills she lost when she became ill. She sits at the table and has breakfast while I comb her hair to save time. After combing her hair, I put on make up on her face, put on her coat and we either go for a short walk or read books.
What I have noticed to be of great help in preparing her for her program includes praying for her, playing gospel music, treating her kindly, and giving her time to get off the bed, Every day is different, I hope these few tips help someone who is struggling to help a child or adult with schizophrenic symptoms. Please email me if you have questions.
