How do your  special-needs children/adults make friends?

This has been an interesting question that I have been asking myself for some time now. I feel so sorry that my daughter does not have friends. I tried getting her friends by creating a meetup with young women with mental health issues, by getting PCA’s on board to help her, and finally by creating a Facebook support group.

My first meetup one person showed up to bowl with Jo-An, but she did not wish to participate or speak with this young woman and so I ended up bowling with her. I got them something to eat and we all went our separate ways. I tried several times to arrange meetups, but all my plans failed. After a few months, l closed my account.

I tried to get her friends through the PCA’s that I hired to help her, but some of the young women were not committed. One of the women helped her get to the YMCA for her swimming classes and after a few months that person, who was a college student, moved on.

My daughter was unable to join the Facebook group I formed several years ago and besides, most people were caretakers, caring for their adult children, and people were from different states.

How do you find friends for your special need children/adults? Feel free to  share how your special-need children/adults make friends; I will appreciate your input. Thank you.
